What is Talbeena?

Talbeena is a thin, relaxing broth made from ground Barley together with its husks. It gets its name from the word ‘laban’ because it has a similar consistency to yoghurt.

Talbeena in the Sunnah:

“The Talbeena gives rest to the heart of the patient and makes it active and relieves some of his sorrow and grief.”
Sahih Bukhari: 5325

“It (Talbeena) soothes the grieving heart and cleanses the ailing heart just as one of you cleans dirt off his face with water.”
Sahih Sunan ibn Maajah: 3445

What are its benefits?

The benefits of a high-fiber diet are accepted by nutritionists, health professionals and believers of alternative medicine alike. From regulating blood pressure to easing stomach conditions and bowel movement to lowering one’s risk of heart disease and diabetes, high-fiber foods have been known to be absolutely essential in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. That being said, Talbeena (made from Barley) is one of the best high-fiber meals one can have in terms of its nutritional value, taste, health benefits and Prophetic tradition.

Talbeena is an excellent fiber-food in that it has health benefits for everyone. It helps strengthen the digestive system of infants and is easily digestible by the elderly. It is rich in antioxidants and contains a high concentration of tocols and tocotrienols, which are oils that help reduce the risk of cancer and heart disease. It helps ease depression and lightens the burden on the heart. The soluble fiber in Barley contains the richest source of beta-glucans that boost the immune system, as compared to any other grain. It also contains B-vitamins, iron, magnesium, zinc, phosphorus, copper, and is one of the richest sources of chromium, which is essential in regulating blood-glucose levels. Numerous studies have been conducted in modern research that demonstrate the effectiveness of Barley in treating health problems like heart-disease, diabetes, colon-cancer and constipation.
